Character

Name: Cecil Aijima
Fandom: Uta no Prince-sama
Gender: Male
Age: No official age given, but most likely around 14
Time Period: Repeat game timeline, post October events
Wing Color: Dark green, they sparkle in the sunlight and sparkles might make the shape of music notes
History: Cecil was born to a native father and Japanese mother in the remote and isolated desert country of Agna Palace. A country governed by music, Agna Palace is famous across the world for its high quality musical instruments, which are said to choose its player and resonate with their soul. Since Cecil is the prince of this magical land, he does have an affinity for music and is a rather talented singer, and can play a whole range of instruments.

Despite being Prince, there is a setback-- his relatives didn't like the fact that he wasn't a full blooded Anga Palacian or however they're called, so when his father fell ill they had a witch curse him into a cat and kicked him out of the country and into his mother's homeland, in hopes of taking over. The only thing that would be able to break the spell would be a song of true love.

Personality: Cecil is a bit of the mysterious type. He looks exotic, since he's a mix of Japanese and Agna Palacian (which is implied to be located somewhere in the middle east), and tends to appear and disappear without warning. He tends to speak in a very flowery and purple prose-y style of language, which often times doesn't make a whole lot of sense despite using proper words and grammar and so on. His role seems to largely be to appear to a troubled Haruka, offer some words of wisdom in that cryptic language of his, then disappear as suddenly as he appeared. He does this in every route in the game besides his own and even in the anime. Though the fact that he speaks strangely might be owed to the fact that his Japanese isn't native and he only knows overly large words or is mirroring his own mother tongue, which we never actually hear him speak aside from a few words.

The anime never reveals much about him beyond that, but the game shows many more layers than that, the first of such being that he is very sweet, polite, and--especially to Haruka--rather romantic. He can be a bit quiet but does use polite language around others that he's just met. Not just to Haruka, but to most girls he's rather chivalrous. When a Satan-possessed Masato begins to rip the sleeves off Haruka's clothes, he protests that a girl shouldn't be so exposed like that. Whenever he broke the possession on Ren's harem minions, he apologized to the girls as they collapsed.

A big part of his kindness revolves around Haruka, though--he calls them "soul lovers" and does give his all to her. He has vowed to always protect her and never leave her alone, such as protecting her from a poltergeist throwing desks and chairs at them, or telling her that she should rest after she lent some of her power to her when they were teleported far from the school grounds--and when he's unable to protect her from harm, he often blames himself for it and gets very upset. He even appeared to her one morning already transformed as human Cecil, saying that their time together is short and they should spend as much time like this as possible. He greatly respects her space; kissing her is one of the things he expresses he wants to do so badly, but when she expressed hesitation about it (considering in her mind they had just met) he understood and decided to wait for her until she was ready and has managed to mostly keep his impulses under control so far. He doesn't want to make her uncomfortable by forcing himself on her.

He's so involved with Haruka most likely because he himself was alone for most of his life. Being a half, his relatives never really approved of him and he spent most of his time alone with his Japanese mother. Even then he was cast out as a cat in an unfamiliar land, and there he found Haruka who accepted him. Though he did find out that all her actions toward him from when he was a cat was a misunderstanding, it didn't stop him from falling deeply in love with her, and since she had saved him from his loneliness he had decided to give her his all, despite all the odds against them.

Being the prince of Agna Palace, Cecil does hold a very strong sense of responsibility and purpose when it comes to the mission regarding Satan. Since the blood of Muse flows within his veins, he considers it his duty to reseal and defeat Satan. And once he has fulfilled that, he has to return to his home country. At this point in time, so much time has passed that while Muse's power has grown and Satan's has lessened some, his power is still growing again and in order to truly seal him again, Cecil has to go home and create a pact with the true goddess of Muse, after which he can no longer touch a woman. While he does tend to give up rather easily in other competitions, he fully understands the weight of his duty in this and even comes to terms with the fact that once they've completed the song of Agna, he may not ever be able to see or touch Haruka ever again. He even told her that he considered giving up the final step in his role to be together with her, but decided that it was too much to sacrifice, and was willing to give up all his personal feelings in order to do what he has to do.

On the other hand, he does tend to do a lot of things with little to no explanation and only thinks about it afterward. Such as when suddenly springing the musical pact on her--which is a kiss--without telling her beforehand what he was doing or why it was relevant. The list goes on, like dragging her away without telling her where they're going or shouting out commands without explaining much anything. When he does impulsively kiss and hug her during his face-off with Tokiya, he does end up apologizing later for intruding on her space.

However, not having ever left Agna Palace before he was cast out leaves him a bit naive of how the rest of the world works. Perhaps the funniest example of this is when he gets the chance to wear the real school uniform for the first time, his sprite shows that he doesn't know that you're supposed to fold the dress shirt collar down over the tie. When he first appears as a human to Haruka and takes her away from Satan-possessed Shining, he begins to act very touchy-feely to her, professing his love and gratitude to her. What he doesn't know is that giving someone (or in this case, a seemingly stray cat) a name doesn't necessarily mean that you love them in Japanese culture, and saying "I love you so much!" to a cat doesn't necessarily mean they love, or are even aware of, the human version of said cat. Later he realizes that the logic of his homeland and of Japan is very different, but that doesn't mean it changes anything. Much later on, when they're visiting the music program Song Station, Cecil gets excited about all the other people singing for TV and jumps out on stage during a live airing. In the end it was okay since his song was very good, but it didn't make very many people happy at first.

Despite having a strong resolve and being impulsive, when it comes to longer and lesser competitions, he tends to be a bit of a defeatist. When they were trying to get the viola part from Natsuki, his other half Satsuki challenged them to find Natsuki in order to get it, but were penalized by being teleported away from the school if they accidentally encountered Satsuki instead. They constantly kept running into Satsuki and he kept teleporting them away, and by the end of the afternoon Cecil was ready to give up. When he had a darts competition with Ren, he was also ready to give up when it seemed like he wasn't able to hit the part he needed to. On both accounts, he needed encouragement from Haruka to continue. And lastly, which may tie in to his naivete, when he sees Haruka willing to save the Satan-possessed boys, and later having a polite conversation with them, he automatically thinks that she must like them, and like a puppy with the tail between its legs he asks her sadly if that's the case.

Strengths: Cecil's primary strengths lie in magic, and he has the ability to fly (even without wings), and teleport. His music actually holds a magical quality to it too, capturing the attention of those listening around him and even strong enough to defeat and seal Satan (I don't know. It's Utapri). He's well-versed in all things involving magic, especially when it comes to Muse and by extension the opposing powers of Satan. Having grown up around music and in a country whose survival depends on the goddess of music, he's also very well-versed and talented when it comes to music, being able to play a variety of instruments and also has a rather nice singing voice.

His resolve and willpower is also worth mention--despite his strong and unbearable feelings for Haruka, he's willing to completely give that up in order to keep Satan sealed and to protect his country and the world. Were he to act on his own he would drop everything and just stay with Haruka forever, but he understands his mission and knows that as a prince of Agna Palace, he has a duty to fulfill.

Emotionally, he's very comfortable with himself and isn't afraid of showing how he feels. After their encounter with a possessed Tokiya, he starts spilling to her that he feels bad for forcing a kiss on her--he was afraid that Tokiya was going to end up kissing her instead, not just because their contract would be nulled if that happened, but because he likes her so much and was getting jealous. He ends up crying to her without any reservations of either being a man or showing weakness to a girl.

Weaknesses: Being stuck in the body of a cat most of the time means that... well, he can't do much more than what normal cats can do. He isn't even able to communicate by speaking with others, just meowing; communicating telepathically is only an option for someone he has a pact with, and that's Haruka. While he is able to go into human form occasionally, it drains his energy rather quickly.

It's rather easy to tell that Cecil hasn't been outside of Agna Palace much at all. While he knows a lot about music and is very well-versed and talented in that department, he doesn't really know that much about the outside world. He tends to be rather naive and jumps to conclusions based on what he's familiar with in his own culture, which actually leads to many misunderstandings between him and Haruka; she gives the name Kuppuru to his cat form and says "I love you" many times, but that's only because she thinks he's a cat. Not a prince.

And as mentioned before, he has a tendency to give up fairly easily when it comes to competitions in which it doesn't seem like he has a chance. For example, when competing against Ren in a game of darts--Haruka was strapped to a giant dart board, and instead of darts they used poisoned roses. The last place that Cecil had to aim for was right by her; not knowing if he was able to make it or not, he was ready to give up and only took the chance with Haruka's encouragement.

Abilities: Cecil is constantly referred to as being good at "magic," yet exactly what that entails is never very specific. So here for reference I'll keep a list of what he's been shown capable of throughout all of Utapri--anime, the games, drama CDs, etc. This list will be continually updated as I go through his routes and the second season of the anime comes out.

-- Flying
-- Teleportation (requires extra energy)
-- Summoning musical instruments
-- Creation of magical barriers/seals
-- Breaking spells/curses (unspecified if only Satan/Muse-related of not)
-- Switching between cat and human form (staying as a human continually drains energy)
-- The "Musical Contract" (currently in one with Haruka)
-- Ability to sense the presence of Muse/Satan (unspecified if can apply to other forces)
-- Ability to sense emotion through music
-- Various misc. spells relating to the Song of Agna

Discography/Music. Cecil's main instrument is said to be the flute, but he has mentioned being able to play a wide variety of them. As the "hidden character" prince, Cecil does not participate in class songs or many of the group songs the rest of the princes sing in, so he does not have the same wide variety of songs.
